What was 3 Mile Island Anyway?

The Three Mile Island accident was a partial meltdown of reactor number 2 of the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station (TMI-2) in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, near Harrisburg. It occurred on March 28, 1979. It was the most significant accident in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant history. The incident ended U.S. construction of new civilian nuclear power plants for three decades and damaged the public image of nuclear energy in the United States!
