The El Presidente is a Cuban Cocktail, originating in the early 1900's,. Likely named after President Mario Garcia Menocal, who was President from 1913 to 1921. During this time Cuba was a super popular spot for american tourists. Especially since alcohol was banned in america during the Prohibition.
After 13 long years of Prohibition, the americans returned home with this wonderful drink!
The well balanced cocktail El Presidente:
1 1/2 ounces white rum
3/4 ounce dry vermouth
1/4 ounce orange curaçao
2 dashes grenadine
First add the white rum, then dry vermouth,. Next add the Orange Curacao and 2 dashes of grenadine to a cocktail shaker or mixer glass (with ice) and stir until equal.
Strain this into a chilled cocktail glass.
